In honor of the 83rd Anniversary of Arkansan's loss on June 15th, 1942, I have updated Captain Jones' biography under 'Aftermath'.
This page is to hopefully help you, the reader, make sense of my website’s structure and to offer a ‘one-stop-shop’ to navigate through it beyond the horizontal navigation bar. Many of you may only be interested in a single topic on the site. Perhaps you are a descendant of one of the people I’ve profiled, or have some connection to a vessel or squadron I’ve researched. But if you love history as much as I do or are a kindred spirit that believes in the principle of ‘Lest We Forget’, I invite you to broaden your scope and explore more of what my website has to offer.
As I mention on the home page: “This site has continued to grow and expand in ways I never imagined when I first created it.” It is a living document that is always changing, so don’t be surprised if you come back later and see something new.
Besides the structure, I’ve added some summaries here to explain what each page covers.
At the top of the website you’ll find a horizontal navigation bar listing 6 main pages plus a search tool:
You’ll notice a drop-down indicator [v] for the first three pages, which expands those to a list of topics, and in some cases those topics dive even deeper into additional pages.
‘Comments’, ‘Credit & Tools’ and this ‘Site Map’ are single pages and fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve added a bit of background on the first two for you.
I added the Comments page as a way for visitors to communicate with me. It also includes my website email. It’s always great to get a positive comment (so please do). This page had the unexpected consequence of providing contacts that have helped me expand and personalize some of histories.
The Credits & Tools page lists the people that have helped me over the years and sites that I’ve grown to trust. For the most part, this list relates to the core story Bernard and his loss on the SS Arkansan, the company he worked for, American-Hawaiian Steamship Company, as well as general topics related to the site. As the site expanded and I added more stories/pages, I started providing a list of unique credits and sources at the bottom for each of those pages.
